Latest US Laws Affecting Online Poker
Legislation aimed at prohibiting United States adult citizens from funding online poker accounts passed the US House in the summer of 2006 and was slipped into a port security bill at the last minute in late September. President Bush signed this bill into law on October 13, 2006.
What does the law mean and how does it affect you?
The law does not apply to players. It does not bring in to affect any new laws pertaining to the legality of playing online poker. The law is aimed at online gambling operations and the financial institutions that transfer funds into those sites.
The repercussions are that some online poker sites as a precaution have stopped servicing US clients to be on the safe side of the law and NETeller, a 3rd party payment processor, has stopped taking withdrawals or making deposits from and into online gambling institutions.
